“The most frightening experience of a lifetime”. This is how our producer Bertrand Loyer will describe his drifting across the Pacific Ocean, 100 miles offshore Nuku Alofa, the capital of the Kingdom of Tonga. His diving boat got caught in an extremely violent tropical storm. Raging seas pushed him offshore, toward the Fiji islands, 1000 km away… But how did he get there? His boat full of filming equipment was towed behind a sailing vessel, but the tow line broke and hang around its propeller…leaving very little chance of action in the middle of the night. After bailing out incoming water overnight, he got rescued in the morning by the sailing ship, but had to abandon the diving boat with all equipment onboard. This picture, taken few seconds before the rescue, is the last picture of the diving boat.
